Detecting crime and responding to incidents in real time is highly effective. Cameras with smart software can detect criminals while they are accessing properties – forcing garage doors or gates; climbing walls and fences; and especially people trying car doors and breaking into cars. Cameras also allow fleeing criminals to be tracked and arrested. A monitored camera sends alerts and allows operators to dispatch SAPS, ADT, CBAR in real time, as the incident is taking place.
Cameras have delivered in Tamboerskloof. Cameras there detect 70% of car breakers and allow immediate response. Monitored cameras have reduced car-break ins from an average of 48 per month to 8.
These are facts. Cameras come at a cost: for the hardware and installation (once-off) and then monthly for the monitoring. But it is also a fact that once installed, monitored cameras may save residents thousands of rands.
Residents, homeowners, body corporates served by a set of cameras will need to pay for the infrastructure, installation and ongoing monitoring.
Donations to DPV will be used to to erect strategic cameras that serve multiple areas.

If all our 4500 households contributed just R30 a month (that’s the cost of a cup of coffee at a restaurant) we would make target and be able to do still more. Pay now by Snapscan or set up a monthly internet banking payment to our account.
